“The Saltmarsh” to be Published in ZNB’s Anthology GAME ON!

Hey, Fans! The preorder is up! Joshua Palmatier from Zombies Need Brains will be publishing my fantasy story “The Saltmarsh” in the anthology GAME ON! this August 2023. It’s part of his annual anthology series, this one edited by Stephen Kotowych and Tony Pi. This is a SFWA qualified pro market and has some incredible writers in the Table of Contents.

When we had the grand opening of our public art studio in the village on Lopez Island many moons ago, my wife and I did a dramatic reading of H. Munro’s poem about a goblin and a nymph. “Overheard on a Saltmarsh” is short, but it opened up a brilliant vision in my mind that’s haunted me for years. I wanted more, more, more! This story is my answer.

Here’s an excerpt from the publisher’s comments and the author lineup:

“Games are about more than winning and losing. They’re about risk and reward, strategy and blind fortune, our need to win and our fear of being outplayed. And when magic and science infuse a game, the stakes can be of cosmic importance. Each move could decide life or death. Are you ready to play?

“In this anthology, seventeen of today’s leading fantasy and science fiction authors explore the role games play in worlds both seen and unseen. Join Aliette de Bodard, Jennifer R Povey, Ed Greenwood, Cory Swanson, David Hankins, Cat Rambo, Wulf Moon, Jo Miles, James Alan Gardner, Karen Lin, Mike Rimar, Eric Choi, Tris Lawrence, Mark Silcox, Melissa Yi, Michael Picco, and Sean Williams as they share with us games played for unimaginable stakes.”

Shout out to David Hankins in this TOC, a member of my Wulf Pack Writers group! Now go ahead. Take a chance on a sure bet! GAME ON! will be published this August 2023, and it’s certain to be a winner!

I am happy to announce I have a historical fantasy story appearing in the Fall issue of the beautiful and wondrous DEEP MAGIC magazine. “Weep No More for the Willow” is the tale of the captain of a Spanish galleon facing off with gods, demigods, and a mermaid! If you like high seas adventure with foreboding omens, supernatural creatures, life or death stakes, and a twist on mermaid tales, you’ve come to the right place!  Add a dash of romance, a sprinkle of revenge, and you have the perfect recipe for a dish best served…wet.  Hey, the story takes place on the water, what do you expect?

Come sail away as I debut my award-winning tales of the Spanish captain Capricho on the pages of DEEP MAGIC. I have been writing Capricho’s stories for twenty-five years, first in live online performances, and now on the pages of professional anthologies and magazines! My tales of Capricho’s young adventures have appeared and continue to appear in Third Flatiron Publishing’s anthologies. In fact, two thousand readers from around the world voted in Critters Readers’ Choice Awards and chose “War Dog”–a young Capricho story–as the Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Story of 2018! Well, I think Capricho fans will be even more excited with this tale–he’s older and wiser, and he’s got himself a boat!

You have my permission to come aboard. Preorder from Amazon by clicking here, or you can click on the cover image above. I trust you’ll enjoy this story when it releases from the dock on September 10th, 2019.  Do check out the other fine authors included in this issue. It’s a special sailing with all hands on deck!
